Winter Elopement in Denmark: Monika & Mickey

Monika and Mickey came to us through a personal recommendation from a good friend who got married with our help here on Aeroe a few years ago.

Right from the start we had a really good connection as Monika works as a “sustainability strategist”. She is a blogger, author, podcaster and advises companies and municipalities on sustainable steps and practices. Our focus as wedding planners is very much on all things local and sustainable.

Monika and Mickey ended up getting married here in Denmark on December 21 (the same date as Mickey's grandparents!). Their dog, Orion, was a big part of their day, and we love our office dog, Murphy, so much so it was just another thing we had in common :-)

“When we first entered the Old Merchant House, the winter sun rays hit the window at an angle there were little rainbows on the carpet. I remarked on it because when Mickey and I made plans for our first date, he almost canceled on me because of heavy rain. I back then responded that after rain often comes the rainbow - which, believe it or not, came true on this very evening. Ever since that day, rainbows have been the symbol of our relationship. We have been lucky to spot them regularly. We were touched when Yuki chose Somewhere over the Rainbow as our wedding song. Maybe "touched" is an understatement. We both cried at that moment.

Even now, weeks later, I still have tears in my eyes when I think of the beautiful ceremony the team at Danish Island Weddings created for us.” - Monika & Mickey
