A Guide To Sustainable Seasonal Wedding Flowers: April

“Just living is not enough…. One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower” – Hans Christian Andersen

The weather on Aeroe has been magical this spring. Almost too good; afternoons have been lit up in technicolour, and the sunsets have looked like tequila sunrise! The warm dry spring means that our local tulip season is nearing an early end. So photographer Camilla and I decided to meet up (at proper corona distance of course) to harvest as many of her blooms as possible and create three very different flower arrangements. Her amazing tulips and my cherry tree were in full bloom, and frankly we all need a bit of flower joy to cheer us up these days!

When Camilla suggested we do the shoot in the ruin of the old pigsty at Voderup, I did not hesitate.

I was only 24 when I bought an old farm, on the south side of the island, right out to Voderup Klint. The house is solid and comfortable, but the main reason why I fell in love with this property was purely due to the location and the ruined pigsty on the edge of the garden! The pigs had the best views in the olden days; their sties were built to shelter the main house from the wind coming up from the coast. But they also got the best sunsets. It was my dream to turn it into a guesthouse, but children and other priorities overtook events and now I’m quite pleased that it remains a ruin as it adds a special atmosphere to the garden. It’s the closest place to heaven on earth ….. and it turned out to be quite the studio too!

Tulips are incredible! Not only do they bloom just when we all need a hit of lush colour the most, they also have a wide range. They can be just as delicate, light and ethereal as they can be a jewel toned rainbow of fun, and everything in-between.

Which of the three is your favourite?
